Venetian blinds are not only practical in terms of privacy and light control but also enhance the aesthetics of your rooms. These blinds and curtains are considered one of the top choices for window furnishings and are suitable for both residential and commercial purposes. They are also available in a reasonable price range.
Like all things that show wear and tear over time, Venetian blinds are no exception. Depending on the usage and their quality, you may find some issues with the blinds that can be easily resolved if you notice them on time. Rectifying the problem without delay will save Venetian blinds' structure, integrity and aesthetics.
Below are some of the issues that are commonly found in Venetian blinds along with their solutions.
The Cord Isn’t Lifting or Lowering the Blinds
The cord is used to lift and lower the blinds and if it breaks or frays, you will not be able to open or close the blinds. If this is the case with your blinds, then you’ll likely need to replace the cords and remount your blinds.
If you want to replace it, you need to remove the existing cord from the slats by removing the clamps that secure the cord to the slats. Then use the new cord and thread it to the slats, maintaining an even distance between them. Hang the blind to the window with the new functional cord.
Blinds Don’t Release or Lock in Place
If there are any issues with the lock and you are unable to release it, then it might have got jammed due to dust or dirt build-up. You have to check both the cord and the lock to see if it needs to be cleaned. However, if the cord is frayed, then it needs to be replaced. Follow the steps from the above point to fit a new cord to your slats.
Damaged Slats
Whether it’s single or multiple, the damaged slats will affect both aesthetics and light control. You can’t block out the light properly as you want to even if a single slat is damaged. If that’s the case with your blinds, then you will have to replace the damaged slats.
To replace the slat, you need to remove the blinds and unclamp all the slats. Remove the damaged slat and install the new one so that it’s in sync with the chord holes. After that, put the cord through all the slats, replace the clamp and hang the blind again to the window.
Slats Won’t Tilt
If the slats won’t tilt, then it can affect privacy, light control, and the air passed through the slits. There could be two reasons why your slats won’t tilt.
First, the cords might get tangled and the tilter mechanism is broken. You will have to untangle the chords by checking inside the head rail of your blinds.
Otherwise, you will require a new tilter mechanism. Purchase a new one and replace the old mechanism. You can do it by removing the slide from the head rail and replacing the old one with a new tilter mechanism. Put the rod back and your Venetian blinds are good to go.
Slats Sagging in the Middle
If your blinds happen to be four feet wide, then the slats won’t remain straight but sag in the middle. It not only doesn’t look good but also reduces privacy and light control. To resolve this issue, you can put centre support brackets to stabilise the blinds and prevent the slats from sagging.
Child Safety Around the Blinds
If left unmonitored, Venetian blinds sometimes pose a strangulation risk to children. To keep your children safe around the blinds, you have to take certain measures by limiting the movement of cords and not keeping the pull cords looped.
Irrespective of the type of window coverings, you should ensure to maintain the blinds. Clean them regularly and don’t operate them harshly while pulling the cords. Make sure they are safe around the children and you can enjoy the beauty of Venetian blinds for as long as possible.
