Line marking in warehouses is important both for your workers and to increase the productivity of your business. Therefore, it’s essential to maintain line markings by cleaning them frequently.
However, when it comes to business working hours, you can’t spend them by cleaning and maintaining line-markings. You have to think of a way to increase the life of markings so that it requires only occasional cleaning which allows your workers to spend more on their actual tasks.
So, we’ve put down a few points that help you maintain the line-markings for a longer time. Let’s dive in without any delay:
- Make sure the floor is properly prepared beforehand
The first trick to make the markings last long is by properly installing them. For this, you have to prepare the floor so that it’s neat without any old marking or tapes attached to it.
It helps the markings attach properly to the floor and makes it last for years. Applying the new markings on the old paint or tapes will make the new ones peel off easily. You have to re-install the marking which takes away both your time and money.
The life of marking also depends on the flooring material. For instance, they last long on epoxy flooring, concrete flooring, etc., where the markings are attached well on the floor. - Try and keep the area as clean as possible
Once you make sure the flooring is clean, you can start applying the line-markings by creating a straight guiding line to get the accurate markings.
Or if you’ve already applied markings, make sure to keep the surrounding area clean.
You can mop or brush the markings as you do for the remaining floor, but never allow puddles of water to stay on the markings. It can weaken the markings and can come off early.
Instruct all your staff regarding the proper cleaning of line-markings so that everyone will be careful when cleaning. - Keep an eye out for any signs of wear
Like everything, line markings also show signs of wear and tear. For instance, the marking can come off at some parts and bubbles can appear on it.
If you see such signs of wear and tear, remove the tape immediately so that it doesn’t worsen. It will help the remaining section of the marking stay intact.
You can remove the damaged part and apply a temporary coating until you take permanent action on it. It helps your workers remain cautious around the unpeeled part. - Keep it as dry as possible
After installing the marking, make sure you keep it as dry as possible to make it durable.
Don’t abuse the marking by dry steering the vehicles on top of it. Tell your workers not to apply brakes or accelerate the vehicles near the line marking. The forced friction can destroy the marking lines and make them prematurely age and damage.
To avoid this, you can draw an internal lining near the actual marking. It acts as an extra caution for the workers not to do any rough actions that can damage the marking.
The internal lining will also tell the workers not to enter the property, wear protective attire, or simply create alertness among them. - Train your team on how to care for it properly
While you make extra efforts to keep the marking neat while installing, it’s nothing if your employees aren’t educated about maintaining it.
Tell all your workers about the maintenance and how not to damage it with their unknowledgeable actions. Also, educate them about the signs of wear and tear of markings so that they take immediate action when they see such signs on markings.
You can also appoint a separate cleaning team to take care of the markings so that they are not damaged or destroyed before they are meant to be.
Line markings are important for several reasons. They are like silent warnings to your employees and an effective guiding system on your warehouse floor. Maintaining them properly will lead to fruitful results in productivity. Make sure to follow the above points to ensure that your markings are staying for as long as possible.
