The installation of modern irrigation technology in the garden often requires the use of a pump. The fundamental question of which type of pump to use – jet pump or centrifugal pumps in Australia – usually arises very quickly. Jet pump or centrifugal pump: what distinguishes the two pump types
The jet pump's mode of operation is based on the fact that a so-called fluid jet is generated, which sucks in a medium such as water. The technology behind it is based on the physical principle of momentum exchange. For this to succeed, you first need a propellant medium that is responsible for the indispensable fluid jet. The most common motive medium is water. Before the system is put into operation, it must therefore first be filled into the pump. Only then can a suction effect arise.
Alternatively, gases are also suitable. The great advantage of jet pumps is that they have practically no internal mechanical components. This in turn means that almost no signs of wear can occur and consequently no spare parts have to be procured.
However, this type of pump also has two serious disadvantages. On the one hand, there would be a significantly lower degree of efficiency compared to almost all other pump variants. On the other hand, a jet pump with comparable performance is always significantly larger than other types. Depending on the situation in the garden, this can become a problem.
A centrifugal pump is also called turbomachine by a centrifugal pump manufacturer. In it, a rotating impeller sucks in rainwater or another medium utilizing negative pressure and then transports it outside via pressure and movement speed. As long as the wheel rotates, water is continuously sucked in and transported. However, smaller stones, pieces of clay and other dirt are also sucked in.
Since these can easily damage the impeller, it is usually essential that a filter is installed upstream of the suction hose, which at least catches coarse impurities in the water. Consequently, the rainwater has to be filtered before it even gets into the containers. The impeller is a typical wearing part that is also exposed to high loads during normal operation. It, therefore, needs to be replaced from time to time.
Pumps of this type must also be serviced and cleaned regularly if their functionality is not to suffer. So they require more attention than jet pumps. However, they are much more compact and lighter, which in turn makes them easier to use in the garden. As a rule, they are also somewhat cheaper to buy. Incidentally, a centrifugal pump is perfect for pumping water from a well.
Modern irrigation technology in garden irrigation
Setting up an irrigation system in the garden makes sense for several reasons. On the one hand, casting can be carried out in a much targeted and very efficient manner in this way, on the other hand, such a system can also be largely automated. It also reliably supplies the plants with water when the garden owner is not around - for example during the summer holiday season. For this to work, you need an irrigation computer or at least a timer.
Since a jet pump always has to be filled with the propellant medium before it is put into operation, it is completely unsuitable for this purpose. Centrifugal pumps, on the other hand, can start and pump immediately.
What else speaks for the gyro technology
A pump technology that is essentially based on a rotating pump wheel can be used in many ways. It can not only be used for watering and thus for watering the garden, but also for cleaning measures, for example. This type of pump is relatively uncomplicated and very robust despite signs of wear.
So it's no wonder that most centrifugal pumps in Australia are based on exactly this technology. Good devices are also relatively cheap to get. They are also usually very compact and relatively light, which not least also enables mobile use. In short: Rotor technology should be the first choice for garden irrigation.
