Mistakes You Need to Avoid During Bathroom Renovations

Bathroom Renovations Hawthorn

Whether you’re adding a single fixture, installing a new bathtub, replacing damaged tiles or doing the entire remodelling, bathroom renovations are an exciting project.

From researching the stylish designs to finding the best professionals for bathroom renovations in Hawthorn – you can do everything you want to your liking.

As exciting as they are, renovating your bathroom can be expensive, especially if you’re not being careful and doing some blunders. So, to prevent shedding unnecessary bucks, learn here the common mistakes some homeowners do and avoid them while doing your bathroom remodelling.

  1. Installing slippery tiles

Sometimes, people tend to buy the wrong kind of tiles looking at the colourful designs and patterns. However, in the bathroom, you must take care and buy only anti-skid tiles. As bathrooms are mostly wet and filled with soapy water, you may slip and fall if you install slippery tiles. So, while purchasing, make sure to look for only anti-skid tiles and nothing else.

Note: Anti-skid tiles need more effort in cleaning, but it’s far better than falling and causing injuries by installing normal slippery tiles.
  2. Not separating wet and dry zones

A bathroom must always contain two separate sections each for dry and wet areas. For instance, part of the floor containing the shower and bathtub must be separated from the part containing the toilet seat. You can achieve this separation by a glass panel, shower curtain or screens or simply by a raised floor section.

If you don’t have this separation, the wet area of the bathroom will not get dried soon and results in developing mould and dirt. You’d have to clean the bathroom more frequently or it can become difficult if you ignore it.
  3. Improper placement of toilet roll and faucet

Toilet paper and faucet must be placed at a distance where the toilet paper doesn’t get wet when you use the faucet. Also, you shouldn’t have to stretch too much for picking the toilet paper. When you are doing bathroom renovations, make sure you’re placing the paper at least 70cm above the ground and 25cm in front of your toilet seat. And if possible, install paper and faucet on either side of the seat which is the ideal placement of each element.
  4. Placing towel rack very adjacent to sink

It’s one of the mistakes that most home owners make and end up getting annoyed by the towel rack placement.

A towel placed too near to the sink can get wet when water is splashed when you wash your hands. So, see that there is enough distance between the two, and if the sink area is too less, try placing the rack a little higher.
  5. Not constructing enough storage space

Whether you have a large or small bathroom, you should design the bathroom so that it has enough storage space. And at the same time, storage shelves should not give an overwhelmed look. Depending on your storage capacity, you can either place a simple shower caddy or a series of shelves to store whatever you need.
  6. Improper lightening

Having a single light to illuminate your whole bathroom may not be the best idea during renovations. According to the size and height of your bathroom, install two or more lights so that your bathroom looks lively and fresh instead of dark and dingy.

For example, you can install one light near the sink, one in the shower area and the other big light to light up the whole bathroom.
  7. Not having enough ventilation

If the humid air and moisture are not vented out properly from the bathroom, the air can get dense resulting in the formation of rust. Rusted fixtures lead to leakages if you ignore to repair them. Therefore, make sure there is enough circulation in your bathroom so that it’s always fresh, odourless, and germ-free.

To avoid making the above mistakes and you’re doing remodelling for your money’s worth, always go for the best bathroom renovation specialists in Hawthorn or any other suburb. You can get the work done in time and can save a lot of bucks by getting the right solution.
